Sample Menu - First 24 hours Postpartum
MEALS
----------
The First Anointing: Immediate Postpartum {within the first hour}
Before the first bite of food, we return to the Living Water. Your body has lost "oceans" of fluid, and your nervous system is vibrating with the intensity of the transition.
----------
The Draught of the Well
A large mug of warm (never cold) water with a squeeze of fresh lemon and a generous pinch of high-quality sea salt.
The Intent
This alerts the kidneys that the labor is over. The salt grounds the Vata (Air/Ether) and the warmth signals to the womb that it is safe to begin the "Sacred Return" (involution).
------
The First Meal: The Hearth Congee {2-4 Hours post-birth}
Your first meal must be as soft as a whisper. We do not ask the gut to work; we offer it a rest.
------
The Dish
White basmati rice cooked in six parts water until it is silk-soft and "pre-digested."
The Anoiting
Stir in a tablespoon of Panchakola Ghee (or plain grass-fed ghee) and a dusting of cinnamon and ginger.
The Spirit
As you eat, recognize that this rice grew in the soil of our Servant Mother, Earth, powered by the sun the Father provided. It is "Daily Bread" in its most humble, restorative form.
------
The Mid-Day Watch: The Covenant Kitchari {6-8 Hours post-birth}
By midday, the adrenaline of birth is fading, and the "stripping back to the bones" feeling may settle in. We need to provide protein that doesn't agitate the "wind" in the belly.
------
The Dish
A soupy, golden Kitchari made of split yellow mung dal and white basmati rice.
The Spicing
Sautéed cumin seeds, turmeric, and plenty of fresh grated ginger.
The Midwife's Perspective
This meal supports the blood-building process and provides the amino acids needed for tissue repair without creating gas or stagnation in the pelvic floor.
------
The Afternoon Refreshment: The Mineral Well {12 hours post-birth}
The afternoon of the first day is often when the "hollow" feeling is strongest. We hydrate the marrow.
------
The Drink
A warm thermos of Dashamoola Tea (the Ten Roots) or a steaming cup of Mineral Bone Broth.
The Functional Mercy
Dashamoola is the primary liturgy for the postpartum nervous system. It "moistens" the dry places and tells the uterus to contract with gentleness rather than aggression.
------
The Evening Hearth: The Rooted Stew: {18 hours post-birth}
As you prepare for the first night-vigil with your babe, we eat for Sustainability and Endurance.
------
The Dish
A simple stew of sweet potatoes and carrots, simmered in a coconut milk and turmeric broth until they are "melt-in-your-mouth" tender.
The Theology
Root vegetables carry the Endurance of the Rock. They grew in the dark, quiet places of the Earth. By eating them, you are literally rooting your own "wind-swept" nervous system back into the ground.
------
The Night Vigil: The Liquid Sabbath
Before the first night of sleep (or wakefulness).
------
The Drink: Golden Milk
Warm almond or cow’s milk with turmeric, ginger, a crack of black pepper, and a teaspoon of honey.
The Intent
This is the "Primary Covering" for your mind. It addresses the heat of inflammation from birth and helps you find "rest in the marrow," ensuring that even if sleep is broken, your spirit remains hydrated and warm.
